At Hinge, we want you to enjoy using the app and meeting the amazing members that make up the Hinge community.
Hinge is really lucky to be the most mentioned dating app in the New York Times' "Weddings" section since 2017 and we intend on being there for many more relationships, marriages and Hinge babies!
As we raise the bar for positive behavior and healthy relationships on and off our platform, your safety is a huge priority of ours.
We want to provide you with some safety tips and guidelines when chatting with users both on and off the app, and if you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team of experts at email@example.com
Fraudulent and suspicious accounts will typically try to have you move the conversation to text or another chatting platform or app as soon as possible after you match. Make sure to block and report these suspicious users. This will be a permanent action and you will no longer be able to view their profile or conversation, nor will they be able to see yours. You can <block and report> concerns about any suspicious user any time on Hinge, and we will ALWAYS preserve your anonymity. This action will be sent directly to our team of user support specialists and we will thoroughly investigate the account and take the necessary steps to make sure they are unable to communicate with members of the Hinge community and banned from our platform. As always, you can follow up with our specialists at firstname.lastname@example.org to follow up with any screen grabs of conversations, any user information, or just to talk. We’re always here for you.
Never Send Money or your Financial Information
Any user who requests money or financial transaction should be reported immediately. There is no reason anyone you have never met should be requesting money from you. For more information, take the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's advice to avoid online dating scams, also available here.
Never Share your Personal Information
Never give personal information, including but not limited to: your social security number, credit card number or bank information, or your work or home address to people you don’t know or haven’t met in person. Hinge will also never ask you for this information either. Should this ever happen, let us know!
Report All Suspicious Behavior
Report anyone who violates our Terms of Service. If you’re not sure if something is in violation, reach out to our team and let us know what your concerns are!
- Anyone asking for money or donations
- Anyone you suspect under the age of 18
- Members sending harassing or offensive messages
- Members behaving inappropriately after meeting in person
- Catfish profiles
- Spam or solicitation, or advertising on the app
With tens of thousands of dates happening each week, we want you to be as prepared as you are excited!
Learn About your Match Before Scheduling a Date
Scam profiles will try to take the conversation outside the app as quickly as possible, so before you exchange phone numbers, make sure you’re very comfortable exchanging that information. Really get to know users online/using the app before meeting them in person. Trust your instinct, and feel free to reach out to our user support team if you’re ever unsure!
Schedule your Dates in Public Places
Never plan a first date at your home or someone else’s home. Plan on meeting in a populated, public place. If your date pressures you to meet somewhere remote, it’s not worth it.
Let someone know your plans
Make sure a trusted friend knows when and where you’re going, and make sure you have your cell phone charged and with you at all times. Make sure your car, public transportation, or a pickup spot for a ride-share are accessible to where you’re meeting your date!
