Trans and gender non-conforming folks are an essential part of the Hinge community. We have never and will never ban someone based on their gender or gender expression. Being trans is no more a violation of our terms of service than being cis (cisgender refers to anyone who is not trans)
Transphobia, on the other hand, including reporting someone simply for being trans, is definitely a violation of our Terms of Service. We have banned members in the past for reporting profiles for this reason and will continue to do so.
It’s our responsibility to ensure that our trans members feel safe and welcome on Hinge, and we will continuously work to do just that.
There is a troubling history of bullying and harassment online against the trans community. Companies and charities have made strides in outlining the issues, such as Brandwatch and Ditch the Label, which analyzed 10 million online posts over a 3½ year period to explore online transphobia.
These behaviors and microaggressions will not be tolerated. We take our responsibility of keeping Hinge a safe and inclusive place for all looking to meet someone wonderful and delete the app very seriously . This relies on strict adherence to and enforcement of our Member Principles and Expectations. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that is abusive, insulting or threatening, discriminatory or that promotes or encourages racism, sexism, hatred or bigotry. This includes making deliberately false reports on our platform against other users or using the report feature to denote discriminatory biases and hate speech.
If you feel you’ve been unjustly targeted, reported, or discriminated against because of your gender, please contact us at the form linked below. We want to hear about your experience and we want to do everything we can to rectify the situation and ensure Hinge continues to be a safe place to date for all. Please select "Reporting Discrimination" from the Support Topic drop down.
